The udder of a cow is an organ designed to produce and offer a newborn calf easy access to its mother’s milk. It is suspended outside the wall of the rear abdomen and thus it is not restrained, supported, or protected by any skeletal structures. The udder of a cow is made up of four mammary glands or “quarters.” Each quarter is a functioning entity of its own which operates independently and delivers the milk through its own teat. Generally, the rear quarters are slightly more developed and produce more milk (60%) than the front quarters (40%).
The basic materials which allow the nourishment of the body come as a result of chemical changes in the digestive system. These digested substances pass through the wall of the intestine into the blood stream. Due to the circulation of the blood, the nutriments reach the relevant organs.
Human beings cannot directly consume either the half digested food in an animal’s stomach or an animal’s blood. The direct consumption of these or any of their compounds can lead to severe illness and may even result in death.
The Qur’an mentions the below verse regards the milk which comes from cattle:
There is instruction for you in cattle. From the contents of their bellies, from between the dung and blood, We give you pure milk to drink, easy for drinkers to swallow. (Qur’an, 16:66)
Translations of the above verse by others:
Sahih International: And indeed, for you in grazing livestock is a lesson. We give you drink from what is in their bellies – between excretion and blood – pure milk, palatable to drinkers.
Pickthall: And lo! in the cattle there is a lesson for you. We give you to drink of that which is in their bellies, from betwixt the refuse and the blood, pure milk palatable to the drinkers.
Yusuf Ali: And verily in cattle (too) will ye find an instructive sign. From what is within their bodies between excretions and blood, We produce, for your drink, milk, pure and agreeable to those who drink it.
Shakir: And most surely there is a lesson for you in the cattle; We give you to drink of what is in their bellies– from betwixt the feces and the blood– pure milk, easy and agreeable to swallow for those who drink.
Muhammad Sarwar: There is a lesson for you to learn concerning cattle. We provide pleasant milk for you to drink within the delicate system of their veins and arteries.
Mohsin Khan: And verily! In the cattle, there is a lesson for you. We give you to drink of that which is in their bellies, from between excretions and blood, pure milk; palatable to the drinkers.
Arberry: And surely in the cattle there is a lesson for you; We give you to drink of what is in their bellies, between filth and blood, pure milk, sweet to drinkers.
The information about the biological formation of milk within the Qur’an, is in great accordance with the facts
established by modern science. It is quite clear that such information, requiring detailed knowledge of mammals’ digestive systems, could not have been known at the time when the Qur’an was revealed over 1400 years ago.
Who would have been able to come up with such sentences and words over 1400 years ago to describe the formation of milk from red blood and processed food? And if the Qur’an was made up by a human why would someone want to include such a verse when there was a chance they could have been proven incorrect later in the future. Why would someone want to mention around 1,000 verses relating to Science, the Universe, Embryology, Water Cycle and much more knowing that it could be proven incorrect.
Cloning of Living Things
Whilst on the topic of cattle, the Qur’an mentions the below verse.
The one whom Allah has cursed; and the devil said, “I swear, I will certainly take an appointed portion of Your bondmen, And I will surely lead them astray, and I will certainly arouse desires in them, and I will definitely order them so they will pierce animals ears, and I will definitely order them so they will alter Allahs creation”; and whoever chooses the devil for a friend instead of Allah, has indeed suffered a manifest loss. (Qur’an, 4:118,119)
Translation of above verse from others
Sahih International: And I will mislead them, and I will arouse in them [sinful] desires, and I will command them so they will slit the ears of cattle, and I will command them so they will change the creation of Allah.” And whoever takes Satan as an ally instead of Allah has certainly sustained a clear loss.
Pickthall: And surely I will lead them astray, and surely I will arouse desires in them, and surely I will command them and they will cut the cattle’ ears, and surely I will command them and they will change Allah’s creation. Whoso chooseth Satan for a patron instead of Allah is verily a loser and his loss is manifest.
Yusuf Ali: “I will mislead them, and I will create in them false desires; I will order them to slit the ears of cattle, and to deface the (fair) nature created by Allah.” Whoever, forsaking Allah, takes satan for a friend, hath of a surety suffered a loss that is manifest.
Shakir: And most certainly I will lead them astray and excite in them vain desires, and bid them so that they shall slit the ears of the cattle, and most certainly I will bid them so that they shall alter Allah’s creation; and whoever takes the Shaitan for a guardian rather than Allah he indeed shall suffer a manifest loss.
Muhammad Sarwar: I will lead them astray, induce in their hearts prolonged, worldly desires, command them to pierce the ears of their animals, sacrificed for the idols, and order them to change the religion of God.” One who accepts Satan as his guardian, instead of God, has certainly incurred a great loss upon himself.
Mohsin Khan: Verily, I will mislead them, and surely, I will arouse in them false desires; and certainly, I will order them to slit the ears of cattle, and indeed I will order them to change the nature created by Allah.” And whoever takes Shaitan (Satan) as a Wali (protector or helper) instead of Allah, has surely suffered a manifest loss.
Arberry: and I will lead them astray, and fill them with fancies and I will command them and they will cut off the cattle’s ears; I will command them and they will alter God’s creation.’ Whoso takes Satan to him for a friend, instead of God, has surely suffered a manifest loss.
The verse may be pointing to the scientific activity of cloning of organisms which exists today (God knows best). Cloning/replica experiments are produced with the taking of cells from tissue samples, cut from animals ears, just as described in the verse above.
God knows best.
