what is cochineal

What is carmine? What is cochineal? What is e120?

You may find one of the above ingredients located on the back of a food product you purchase. The ingredient is a red pigment made from the crushed female cochineal insect/beetle. Basically, it’s a dye used for colouring food, made from crushed dried bodies of a female scale insect.

Here is a video explaining what carmine/cochineal/e120 is.
